Baru-baru ini, para ilmuwan mendapatkan kabar gembira. Spesies ngengat yang hilang ditemukan kembali setelah 130 tahun. Heterosphecia tawonoides, Ngengat biru oriental ini berkamuflase sebagai lebah. Spesies ngengat ini diidentifikasi sebagai salah satu spesimen rusak yang dikoleksi pada tahun 1887.
Spesies ini ditemukan kembali oleh ahli serangga asal Polandia. Lokasi penemuannya di sebuah hutan hujan di Malaysia, salah satu daerah paling kaya akan satwa liar di bumi. Ngengat biru oriental atau Heterosphecia tawonoides ini berkamuflase, mengumpulkan garam dan mineral dari daerah yang lembap dengan belalai yang menyerupai lidah.
Keadaan ekosistem yang kian mengalami deforestrasi mengakibatkan spesies ini rentan lenyap dengan cepat. Mengingat tingginya tingkat kepunahan spesies ini, sangat penting untuk mempelajarinya.
